With the rising petrol and diesel  prices across the country, Congress calls for a ‘Bharat Bandh’ - nationwide shutdown - on September 10 to protest against the central government for not being able to regulate the fuel prices and express their dissatisfaction over the same.

While addressing a press conference, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala asked the other opposition parties to support the bandh and demanded that petrol and diesel should be brought within the ambit of the GST so that the "common man whose budget has gone haywire is provided with the requisite relief".

Petrol prices rose to ₹86.91 per litre and diesel is being sold at ₹75.95 per litre. Even though petrol and diesel prices are steady in the international market, fuel prices are constantly rising in the country.

Congress said that there is a discontent among the people against the government. It pointed out that due to the hike in fuel prices, the price of essential commodities is also rising.
