Mahavikas Aghadi candidate Ravindra Dhangekar defeated the BJP’s Hemant Rasane by over 10,000 votes in a closely-fought contest in its bastion of Kasba Assembly constituency, giving a setback to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and Shiv Sena in Maharashtra. At the end of Round 20, Dhangekar bagged 72,599 votes while Rasane got 61,771 votes.

Let's know the political career of Ravindra Dhangekar who won the by-election of the town and destroyed the stronghold of BJP. He is known to be very loyal to MNS President Raj Thackeray.

Dhangekar had contested the 2009 assembly elections from the MNS. During this election, he gave a strong challenge to BJP's Girish Bapat. Bapat had won by just 7 thousand votes against the newcomer Dhangekar. 

Ravindra Dhangekar is a five-time corporator and has represented Shiv Sena and MNS twice in the Pune Municipal Corporation. In 2017, Dhangekar joined Congress. He has been a corporator for the last 25 years. While working as a corporator, he did many developmental works in his department.

This Kasba Peth bye-election was very important for Ravindra Dhangekar who traveled politically in three parties namely MNS, Shiv Sena and then Congress. Dhangekar is known as a staunch political opponent of BJP's Girish Bapat. After almost 28 years, Ravindra Dhangekar has won in the Kasba constituency which is the stronghold of BJP.
