Will Balasaheb Thorat be the new Maharashtra Congress President?

Earlier on Wednesday, after Rahul Gandhi made his resignation public, senior Congress leader Motilal Vora was appointed as the new party president at the national level

After witnessing major defeat in 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Congress is facing major leadership crisis at the national and state level in Maharashtra. At the National level, Rahul Gandhi has made his resignation public while at the state level, Ashok Chavan had already submitted his resignation earlier. 

The speculations suggest that Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat might be appointed as the new state president. However, there has been no final announcement regarding the same. Along with Thorat, three other names have also been suggested including Harshvardhan Patil, KD Pavdi and Amit Deshmukh. 

The sources have informed that Rahul Gandhi is likely to visit Bhiwandi on July 4. No final decision has been taken regarding the appointment in order to prevent anyone to express their disappointment before Gandhi. The appointment of new Maharashtra Congress will be finalised on July 5.
