After the CBI shake-up, Congress on Friday launched nationwide protests including New Delhi and Mumbai against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for interfering in Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) work.

Earlier on October 23, PMO gave the orders disabling CBI director Alok Verma to continue his duty and sent him on a indefinite leave. The decision was actually taken on Tuesday, around midnight and has been condemned by the opposition parties.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi protested in New Delhi’s Lodhi Road outside CBI office, while Mumbai witnessed hundreds of Congress activists protesting and sloganeering against the government at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) near CBI office here.

While criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress has alleged that in order to stop its corruption to be exposed in Rafale Case, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Modi have stripped Alok Verma from his powers. Mumbai Congress protested in BKC around 11:00 in the morning under the leadership of Sanjay Nirupam and former MP Priya Dutt.

We have gathered here to protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his unconstitutional attempt to deter investigations into Rafale scam by removing CBI Director Alok Verma,” said Nirupam.

However, in Mumbai, police detained Nirupam and Dutt with other party workers after they tried to carry out a rally from MTNL Junction office to CBI’s office.
