Republican Party of India (RPI) (A) chief and Minister of State for Social Justice, Ramdas Athawale on Monday said that he will talk to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on the issue of Dalit atrocities. However, RPI has not taken an official stand on the protest.

The protest at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan – Elgaar Rally – is organised with the demand to arrest the alleged culprit Sambhaji Bhide for Bhima-Koregaon violence.

Ramdas Athawale said that whoever is behind the Bhima-Koregaon violence should be arrested. The truth will come out after the investigation.

Athawale further added that Dalits are now more socially and politically aware. He also said that the tension between Dalits and Maratha community is minimising and both the communities shall be united.

Talking on the Supreme Court’s verdict, Athawale commented that he doesn’t agree with the apex court’s verdict as 90 per cent people cannot lie. He narrated that in present time also Dalits are being attacked, women are being exploited, and some crimes against Dalits are not even reported.

RPI chief added that some of the complaints can be false but not all. He said that he will file a petition in the SC to rethink on the given verdict.

Replying to Raj Thackeray’s statement of Modi-Mukt Bharat, Athawale said that it is not possible. Taking a dig at Raj, he said that his rallies sure gather the crowd but he doesn’t get votes in the elections. He further added that Maharashtra can be Raj Thackeray Mukt but not Modi-Mukt.
