Uddhav Thackeray, Sharad Pawar along with cabinet ministers hold meeting

In the review meeting, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that the Maharashtra government will wait for the centre’s guidelines on lockdown relaxations and talked about starting economic activities in some parts of the state.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Friday held a discussion with Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar along with some cabinet ministers to talk about the current situation regarding COVID-19 outbreak and economic crisis. 

In the review meeting, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that the Maharashtra government will wait for the centre’s guidelines on lockdown relaxations and talked about starting economic activities in some parts of the state. He reiterated that the district borders will remain close. 

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray, Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, Water Resource Minister Jayant Patil, Health Minister Rajesh Tope among others were also present at the review meeting. 

“Sharad Pawar took a review of the economic package declared by the centre along. The problems of migrant workers, employment and issues related to industries and economic activities were discussed,” the official account of NCP tweeted in Marathi. 

The Maharashtra government earlier allowed the industries to operate in orange and green zones across the state after April 20. Over 9 lakh workers have returned to work while 35,000 out of 65,000 industries with permission have started their work, it said. 

In a statement, the government informed that since the migrant workers are heading for their native states, the labour bureau has been helping industries in finding replacement workers. 

The electricity usage by industries in Maharashtra has gone up by 50 per cent as compared to the initial phase of the lockdown. In the meeting, the discussion was also held about filling vacant posts in the health department and the requirement of medical equipment. 

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government has extended the lockdown in red zones MMR, Pune, Malegaon, Aurangabad and Solapur until May 31. However, there has been no official announcement regarding lockdown extension yet. 

On Thursday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray chaired a meeting with the cabinet members at Old Mayor bungalow in Dadar. Thackeray discussed extending the lockdown in cities like Mumbai, Pune till May 31.
