The state government of Maharashtra has undertaken an INR 900 crore cybercrime security project with an aim to curb the rising cases of online crime. Officials from the cabinet decided to implement this project as soon as possible, and hope the success helps in stopping cyber crime, said Home Minister Anil Deshmukh who was present at the inaugural event of the Cyber Crime Police Station.

Speaking on the occasion through an online conference, Anil Deshmukh said that since information technology has taken over the world, online information exchange and financial transactions have become mandatory for several processes, and this adds to the risk, on a large scale. As per reports, cases of cybercrime are increasing day by day. and fraudulent transactions have risen across many districts.

Cybercrime is on the rise worldwide, and the pattern is being observed in Maharashtra as well. Keeping this in mind, the government has decided to set up Cyber police stations to control this crime rate.

Meanwhile, social media today is also used to defame the police department, politicians, women, society, culture, etc. and often helps in spreading rumours, thereby creating a rift in the society. These stations will also be used to stop such incidents.

On the other hand, the rate of creating fake profiles has also increased significantly and the Maharashtra Police Force is working hard towards curbing the issue and maintain good law and order in Mumbai and other parts of the state, by also reducing the crime rate. Besides this, the Mumbai Police will continue to teach a lesson to those who work outside the rules, and there is a need to make the anti-narcotics cell more capable, said the Home Minister.

Mumbai Guardian Minister Aslam Sheikh congratulated the police for setting up reception rooms in each police station. People don't come to the police station just when a crime is committed. They have some problems, they don't have a place to sit and talk and this reception room has solved the problem. Adding more, he also said that the efforts taken to uplift the name of Mumbai Police all over the world are commendable.

In his introductory remarks, Mumbai Police Commissioner Paramveer Singh said that cybercrime is on the rise as the digital economy develops. These crimes can be committed sitting anywhere in the world. Sharing the data, he added that last year, a total of 2,500 FRRs and 10,000 cyber complaints were lodged. However, to date, there was only one cyber police in BKC. To curb the cases, officials will have to train manpower with modern technology, and hence, after thorough consideration, the department has decided to set up five cyber police stations in the city.

Besides this, 94 reception rooms at different police stations are also being inaugurated and this will help people ask their questions properly when they come to the police station. The efforts also include trained female staff and will also extend all possible assistance to them in registering their grievances, he said.
