Government-run Prasar Bharati has been criticised by many for changing the logo of its Hindi news channel DD News from red to saffron. The opposition and those working in the media alleged that the government media is being saffronized by the ruling BJP. On April 16, Doordarshan showed a glimpse of this new logo on social media. Along with this, DD has made major changes in the overall branding, studio and news presentation.

However, Prasar Bharati CEO Gaurav Dwivedi has dismissed the opposition's allegations. The colour of the logo is not saffron but orange. Six to seven months ago, before the G20 summit, we had similarly changed the logo of DD India, an English news channel. Now the logos and other designs of both the news channels of the same group have been made the same, said Gaurav Dwivedi.

Dwivedi also said that the logo of DD National, which broadcasts entertainment and news programs in English and Hindi, was also changed to orange and blue last year. Not only the colour of the logo, but we also changed the graphics of the studio and the news presentation, he said.

Dwivedi added, “The colour of the logo has been changed several times over the last several decades. Various colour combinations have been done in logos before. These changes have been made to present the news channel in a slightly different and new format."

Prasar Bharati's former CEO (2012 to 2016) and current Rajya Sabha MP and Trinamool Congress leader Jawahar Sircar criticised the changed logo saying that it is a campaign to demonise government media and Prasar Bharati has now been called Prachar Bharati.
