Speaker Rahul Narwekar has taken a significant step by issuing show-cause notices to 54 legislators. These legislators include 14 members from the Shiv Sena (UBT) and 40 from the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde. The notices have been sent to address the claims of disqualification against them. The legislators are now required to provide a response within seven days.

This development comes after Bharat Gogawale, the whip for the Shinde-led Sena, initiated disqualification proceedings against UBT Shiv Sena MLAs last year. In a similar vein, Sunil Prabhu, the whip for the UBT camp, took comparable actions against the legislators affiliated with the CM's group.

In a noteworthy incident, Shinde-led Sena legislators allegedly skipped a meeting presided over by former CM Uddhav Thackeray.

It is important to note that a notice was previously issued to the UBT group, specifically directing Sunil Prabhu to respond by June 27, 2022. However, due to a Supreme Court ruling, the deadline was extended to July 12, 2022. The proceedings were momentarily suspended following an interim ruling by the Supreme Court. This entrusted the Speaker with the responsibility of making a decision based on the Constitution's Tenth Schedule.

Sunil Prabhu, in particular, has been instructed to provide a reply within seven days or face the possibility of an ex-parte order. The urgency of a response indicates the gravity of the situation.
