Senior Shiv Sena leader Sadanand Tharwal of Dombivli has resigned from his position as the district chief of the Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray-led party, citing unfair treatment of loyal Shiv Sainiks. Tharwal raised concerns about loyal party members being overlooked, while opportunities to contest elections are being given to candidates who defected from other parties. Tharwal’s dissatisfaction grew when party chief Uddhav Thackeray selected Dipesh Mhatre, a former member of Shinde's Shiv Sena, as the candidate for the Dombivli assembly constituency. Tharwal did not participate in Mhatre’s party induction or campaign, sparking political speculation that he might take a different stance.
In his resignation letter to Uddhav Thackeray, Tharwal referenced a similar situation from 2014, when a young candidate was nominated for the Dombivli assembly elections. He admitted that he had acknowledged the mistake made in that decision as the party chief at the time. Tharwal emphasized his long-standing loyalty to the party, stating that for 44 years, he had played a crucial role in the party’s growth, staying committed to leaders like Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray, District Chief Anand Dighe, and former Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Despite facing offers and temptations from other political parties, Tharwal remained faithful to Shiv Sena. However, he expressed regret that this loyalty is no longer being appreciated. Tharwal concluded that if his dedication is not valued, there is no reason to remain in the party, adding that the late Anand Dighe would not have tolerated such disregard for loyalty. He never imagined that such a moment would come in his life.
