With Maharashtra assembly elections coming closer, the model code of conduct will be implemented as soon as the State Election Commission (SEC) announces the poll dates. Amid this, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has cleared several proposals worth 3,000 crores in just five of its standing committee meetings.

The projects approved by the BMC include financial assistance to Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), reconstruction of Sion hospital, maintenance of civic body-run schools, repairing of roads and bridges.

After the implementation of the model code of conduct, the government bodies will not be able to take any decision regarding sanctions. Therefore, the ruling parties including Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena in BMC want to clear projects in order to woo voters.
