According to the latest reports, on Thursday, May 26, morning, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) searched multiple locations across the state in lieu of its Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) investigation against Maharashtra Transport Minister and Shiv Sena leader, Anil Parab, amongst others.

Based on accounts, the ED searched seven premises linked to the minister in Mumbai, Pune and Ratnagiri. The body is investigating alleged irregularities in a land deal in Ratnagiri's Dapoli and other charges. It has been reported that Parab's official as well as private residence have been raided.

A fresh Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) has been registered against Parab in an alleged money laundering case, on the basis of which the ED is conducting raids at his various locations.

Amid these developments, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar stated that while central investigation agencies have the right to search and raid, they should not be misusing their powers. He questioned why this action against Parab was taken. He believes that action should be done in a transparent manner.

Likewise, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut while interacting with the media elaborated on how they are in support of Parab. He opined that the BJP is using central government agencies against the opposition which is a conspiracy to defame the state government.

Narratives suggest that the ED's actions are in regard to the allegations of purchasing a land parcel in Dapoli by the minister in 2017 for a consideration of INR 1 crore. However, it is claimed to have only been registered in 2019. In addition to this, it is believed that other charges are also being investigated by them.

Reports claim that the land was then sold to Sadanand Kadam, a cable operator based in Mumbai for a consideration of INR 1.10 crore in 2020. Between 2017 to 2020, on the same land, a resort was built.

Earlier an Income Tax Department probe had alleged that the building of the resort commenced in 2017 and more than INR 6 crore was spent in cash over the same, accounts cite. In the past, Parab has been questioned by the ED in another money laundering case linked to Anil Deshmukh, a former minister.
