State Election Commission (SEC) has issued a letter to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) over its new flag which bears the ‘Rajmudra’ (Royal stamp) used during Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s rule.

The State Election Commission has asked the Raj Thackeray-led MNS to take appropriate action on the complaint. The letter to MNS over its new flag bearing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s insignia was issued after complaints were filed regarding the same with the SEC.

MNS General Secretary Shirish Sawant said that the SEC has not issued them any notice but a letter with complaint copies and has asked them to take appropriate action on the same.

“We have received a letter but it is not a notice. It is a letter with complaint copies. State Election Commission has informed us to take appropriate action on the same. However, the kind of action which the state EC expects from us is unclear to me,” Sawant said.

The MNS leader further stated that they need more clarity in this letter issued by the SEC as both the flags were sent to the Election Commission before the launch.

On the occasion of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray’s birth anniversary, Raj Thackeray announced a major shift in his party’s policy turning MNS full saffron. Amit Thackeray, son of MNS chief Raj Thackeray, was also appointed as a party leader during the event.

In MNS’ first-ever conclave after more than 14 years of its formation, the party launched its new flag which has the ‘Rajmudra’ used during Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s rule. The regional party also appropriated Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
