Amid the controversy over Babri Masjid remarks, Farhan Azmi – son of Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Abu Asim Azmi – has clarafied that he meant to say, he will build mosque on the plot which the Uttar Pradesh government is supposed to give to Muslims under the directions of Supreme Court.
Farhan Azmi, who contested the Lok Sabha and assembly elections in 2014, stated that he will join Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in laying foundation stones for both temple and mosque, asserting that “Uddhavji should not fall into the trap created by BJP”.
“How can I build a mosque on the disputed plot which has been given to Hindus now. I meant to say that I will join CM in laying foundation stones for both temple and mosque. This mosque will be constructed on the alternative plot. I didn’t mean to stop Uddhavji,” Times of India quoted Farhan Azmi in a report.
While speaking at an event organised by his NGO Parcham Foundation and ‘We the People of India’, Farhan Azmi had said that if Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will go to Ayodhya, he will also go – but to construct Babri Masjid.

“Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is visiting Ayodhya on March 7, I will also go with him. He will build Ram Mandir and we will build Babri Masjid,” Farhan Azmi said while adding that members of MVA and SP should join him.
This sparked huge outrage in the political circle. SP leader Abu Azmi also condemned the statement made by his son while distancing himself and his party from the controversy.

Abu Azmi stated that his son’s remark on Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray visiting Ayodhya is his personal opinion and Samajwadi Party has nothing to do with it.
