Maharashtra's Former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, on Saturday, November 6, 2021, was sent to judicial custody for 14 days, by the special holiday court. The decision was taken after the court rejected Enforcement Directorate's plea  to grant a nine-day extension his custody in the money laundering case.

Deshmukh was arrested on November 2, 2021, by the ED for custodial interrogation, and was sent to custody until November 6, 2021, in the court. He was produced at the court on Saturday after his custodial period came to and end, however, Mumbai's Special PMLA Court has sent him to jail for 14 days. However, officials state that Deshmukh can now file a petition for  bail.

The court refused the same as a few documents were not obtained and the team was not able to contact and question a few people due to the ongoing holidays.

Reports published earlier state that he was summoned five times to appear, and Deshmukh had reached the ED office at 11.40 in the morning on Monday, November 1, 2021. The ED arrested him in the afternoon after an interrogation of over 13 hours. It is being said  that former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh had written a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray alleging that Anil Deshmukh had demanded INR 100 crore per month from Sachin Vaze. This was when he was holding the position of State Home Minister. Besides this, he was also accused of taking money to transfer and offer several posts to police officers in the state.

A report published in the Bar and Bench stated that 27 companies were being controlled directly or indirectly by members from Deshmukh's family. Details were received from recent investigations which added that the entities were utilised to infuse the money received in the wrong manners. The publication quoted the plea which stated, "During the course of investigation, it is also revealed that there are certain transactions between Deshmukh and his family members, and money has flown subsequently to various companies controlled by Deshmukh."

Officials also informed that the custody was helpful in receiving details of a few people who were being questioned and asked to confront along with recording of statement.
