As per the reports released by AIIMS, former Prime Minister's condition has worsened over the past 24 hours. PM Narendra Modi and other ministers are paying visits to check on his health.

Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has been put on life support system as his health deteriorated late on August 15, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences said in a statement.

Over the last nine weeks, a team of doctors at AIIMS has been treating former Prime Minister Atal Bihar Vajpayee. As per reports released by Aarti Vij, chairperson, media, and protocol division of the AIIMS, his condition has become critical over the past 24 hours, and he is now on life support system Aarti Vij.

Political leaders and personalities have been paying him a visit regularly. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also visited him in the evening at around 7.15 PM to enquire about the health. It is said that PM Modi spent around 50 minutes at AIIMS.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani, BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi and others also paid a visit.

Owing to a kidney and urinary tract infection with low urine output and chest congestion, Vajpayee was admitted on June 11 at AIIMS. At present, he is a diabetic and has only one functional kidney. Earlier in 2009, he suffered which slowed his cognitive abilities, after which he developed dementia.
