A day after the Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray as seen attending an event virtually wearing a cervical collar, his aide on Tuesday, November 9, said that the CM may undergo surgery “if the need arises”.

Thackeray, who shifted to his official residence Varsha before Diwali, is undergoing treatment for severe back and neck pain. He has been clearing urgent files but has stopped chairing meetings.

The CM's pain has aggravated and a medical team is monitoring the development. He is also undergoing routine check-ups. Since the last few days, he developed pain in his legs and back. He had also mentioned this during his meeting with journalists before Diwali.

However, on Monday, November 8, he attended a virtual foundation stone laying ceremony by PM Narendra Modi of Sreesanth Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi Marg and Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi Marg in Pandharpur.

Moreover, he will virtually chair the cabinet meeting today, November 10, at 3.30 pm.

Sources reiterated that the doctors will take a decision on surgery in the next two days. He has undergone tests and is likely to be operated at HN Reliance Foundation hospital in south Mumbai.

According to reports, the decision on surgery will be taken after his son, who is also the Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray, returns from Galagow on November 12, after attending the COP26 meeting of state governments.
