Sharad Pawar held a press conference after Ajit Pawar took an oath as Maharashtra Deputy CM. NCP senior leader Jitendra Awhad elected as new Leader of Opposition.

While talking to the media, he mentioned that PM Narendra Modi had said that NCP has tainted leaders and the same leaders have been included in the cabinet. Modi has freed us from the allegation of being a tainted party.

He also added that names which were seen during the oath ceremony, approached him and said that they were invited but they have different agenda. This is new to me. During 1980 after elections, I was leading NCP where 98 MLAs were appointed. However, except 6, all left me. I took the remaining and led the party.

"I trust the youth and people of Maharashtra that they will do justice. I am receiving calls across the country and they are saying that they are with us and will stand together. I am not worried. I will try and connect with people across the state. Whoever claims anything, we will get in touch with people as I trust them."

On Ajit’s decision of electing with party symbol and resigning from LoP post, Sharad Pawar said we didn’t know about this. He added he will not fight over the statement.

As NCP chief, we will discuss matters with Uddhav Thackeray and other leaders and will take a decision over the party. "We will include new faces in the NCP".

"I just have to mention that Tatkare and Patil did not carry out their responsibilities." He added the duo should understand their responsibilities and should decide about the same.

"We will fight against BJP who is playing caste, religion based and will try and fight elections solely on our morals and principals."

Speaking on cabinet expansion, he said that he is worried for those leaders who left respective political parties for the ministerial position as now more leaders have joined the party. He further added that action will be taken against those who left the party.

When asked who will be the prominent and promising face of NCP party, Sharad Pawar called out his own name.

Jayant Patil took to Twitter and posted a photo with Sharad Pawar saying he supports the latter.

Anil Deshmukh too shown the support on Twitter.

When Sharad Pawar announced his resignation

Two months ago, on May 2, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar stepped down as the chief of Nationalist Congress Party.

After his decision, NCP president Jayant Patil and party leader Jitendra Awhad broke down while MP Praful Pawar beseeched him to withdraw his decision.

Meanwhile, Pawar clarified that he would not retire from active politics.

“My colleagues, even though I am stepping down from the post of president, I am not retiring from public life. ‘Constant travel’ has become an integral part of my life. I will continue attending public events, and meetings. Whether I am in Pune, Mumbai, Baramati, Delhi, or any other part of India, I will be available to all of you as usual", Pawar told the NCP workers.

He was speaking at a book launch of his autobiography at the Yashwantrao Chavan Pratisthan in Mumbai.

While this was going on, Ajit Pawar was seen heckling at party workers who were persuading Sharad Pawar to take back his decision. After a few days, Sharad Pawar took back his resignation as the national president of the party.

Sharad Pawar appoints NCP party working president, sidelines Ajit Pawar

Last month Sharad Pawar named his daughter and the Baramati MP Supriya Sule, 53, and the NCP’s current vice president Praful Patel, 66, who is a former Union Minister, as new working presidents for the party.

On the 25th anniversary of the party Pawar made the announcement in New Delhi. He said, “I am bestowing the responsibility of NCP’s working president to Praful Patel; along with that, have given responsibility to the States of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Jharkhand and Goa. I am also giving the responsibility of Maharashtra, Haryana, Punjab, women, youth and Lok Sabha coordination to Supriya Sule as the working president.”

Party’s national general secretary Sunil Tatkare was given the responsibility of Odisha, West Bengal, farmers, and the minority department.
