Amid the reshuffle of bureaucrats in Maharashtra, senior officials Bhushan Gagrani and Vikas Kharge on Monday were appointed as principal secretaries to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

Gagrani was the principal secretary to former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis while Vikas Kharge was forest secretary in the previous government.

When Fadnavis was about to leave office, Gagrani was transferred as principal secretary of the industries department. However, when Fadnavis took the oath again on November 23 while joining hands with Ajit Pawar, Gagrani was asked to come back.

Even after Uddhav Thackeray swore-in as CM, Bhushan Gagrani continued and his appointment got confirmed on Monday. Gagrani is a 1990 batch IAS officer.

Moreover, there are speculations that additional chief secretary SJ Kunte could be one of the contenders for chief secretary’s post after Ajoy Mehta retires. Mehta, an IAS officer of the 1984 batch, leads Maharashtra’s bureaucracy and set to retire on March 31, 2020.
