Devendra Fadnavis challenges Shiv Sena to contest mid-term polls

While speaking at the state level BJP convention in Navi Mumbai, Fadnavis said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will defeat the Congress, Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) alone in the next assembly elections.

Former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in the state assembly, Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday challenged the ruling Shiv Sena to contest mid-term polls again in Maharashtra. While speaking at the state level BJP convention in Navi Mumbai, Fadnavis said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will defeat the Congress, Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) alone in the next assembly elections. 

Reacting to claims of ‘Operation Lotus’ and CM Uddhav Thackeray’s challenge to topple his government, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis said that Shiv Sena should dissolve the government and contest fresh elections. “Shiv Sena should dissolve the government and contest mid-term polls again. The people of Maharashtra will show Shiv Sena its place,” Former Chief Minister and BJP leader, Devendra Fadnavis asserted.

Fadnavis remarks come after Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray dared the BJP to topple the three-party alliance Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in the state. While speaking in Jalgaon on February 15 in the presence of NCP chief Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray claimed that the BJP was planning to launch ‘Operation Lotus’ in April to topple the Maharashtra government. 

“If you are planning to topple our government then I challenge you to do it today itself. I, Balasaheb Thackeray’s son, accept the challenge. People are happy with the current government and they have already thrown you out of power,” Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said.

During the Karnataka assembly polls, the opposition had labelled the BJP’s infamous act of luring MLAs as ‘Operation Lotus’. This is used by the saffron party to shift power in its favour. In Karnataka, BJP managed to come to power after toppling Janata Dal (Secular) and Congress government.
