In an exclusive conversation with Mumbai Live, Indian National Congress candidate and Mumbai Congress President Milind Deora contesting from Mumbai South constituency says that unemployment and women’s safety are the major issues at national level
Indian national Congress’ high profile candidate Milind Deora has been fielded against Shiv Sena’s Arvind Sawant for the South Mumbai constituency. In his interaction with Mumbai Live, he discussed his agenda and the difference he wants to bring for the people of Mumbai.
When asked Issue Kya Hai, Deora was quick to display that there were several issues, “Growing unemployment is an issue, not only for the youngsters but for every citizen in the country. Women’s Safety is another grave issue that requires attention. Along with this, healthcare is an issue, education for all is an issue. There are different issues at national level and different issues at the local level.”
However, he strongly felt that unemployment and women’s safety are the two issues that have a prevalence at national as well as local level. Pointing out their relevance, he said, “There are other issues that can vary from constituency to constituency. But unemployment and women’s safety are issues widespread across the entire country. The youngsters in India have degrees, they have education but they don’t have jobs.”
He added, “Today it might just be an economic issue but as time passes by, the issue can grow to become a social issue, even become a political issue. Unemployment poses a threat to the country and its safety too.”
Mumbai Needs Leaders
Deora said that five years ago, Mumbaikars had lost their voices when they ignored the local candidates and voted for Narendra Modi. Alongside, he was adamant on bringing clean politics back in Mumbai and said that the politicians must be free from criminal charges.
Expressing his disappointment in the leaders present in Mumbai, he said, “Mumbai doesn’t have any powerful leaders. There are no leaders in Mumbai. People don’t know who the MP of Mumbai is, people are unaware of the Mayor of Mumbai. Mumbai needs good leaders if we want to to do well. That’s why I am contesting the elections as I want to restore leadership in Mumbai.”
I Just Want To Serve
When asked about his political ambitions, he replied, “I don’t have any political ambitions. I never did. I just want to serve and I'm happy to do so. Faith, Trust, and Credibility amongst people is the most important thing for me.”
He strongly condemned the comments made by BJP candidate Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur about martyr Hemant Karkare. He called it a deplorable comment and there is nothing worse than insulting a man in a uniform.
There is a tough fight between sitting Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant and Congress candidate Milind Deora. Mumbai will vote on April 29 in the Lok Sabha election.
