Maharashtra Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chandrakant Patil has alleged a huge political conspiracy against him after the Judicial Magistrate of First Class (JMFC) court issued an order asking the police to investigate the claims.

Abhishekh Haridas, a resident of Kothrud area in Pune, filed a petition alleging that the BJP leader lied in his poll affidavit for 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections. Patil contested the 2019 polls from Kothrud assembly constituency.

The petition says that Patil failed to mention the details of businesses owned by him in the poll affidavit filed before the election commission in 2019. It also states that the BJP leader hid the information about a pending criminal case registered against him.

The petition, filed in February this year, accused Patil of hiding information about the ownership of two companies and revenue earned from the same. Haridas mentioned in this petition that the voters have rights to know the details of their candidates.

The petition seeks directions to register a criminal case against Patil for cheating the election commission and voters. According to media reports, the JMFC court on August 20 ordered the police to probe the matter and file a report by September 16.

However, Patil rejected the allegations saying that this was a huge conspiracy against him. He said that these objections were not raised during the 2019 Maharashtra assembly polls.

The returning officer, who is responsible for overseeing the election in a constituency, was not able to find anything wrong with the affidavit, Patil said while adding that his opponent in the 2019 assembly polls also didn’t raise any issues.
