After meeting UPA chairman Sonia Gandhi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Friday announced that the opposition will be protesting against the alleged “EVM scandal” on Wednesday, August 21.

While taking a dig at the ruling parties, Thackeray said that this protest is against EVMs, and the ruling parties including Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) should join the same. “If the BJP is so sure about winning elections, why object the use of ballot papers?”

We want transparent elections and all the opposition leaders are participating in the protest against EVMs. The elections should be conducted on the ballot paper and we will take public opinion on the same by distributing forms across the state,” said Raj Thackeray.

The MNS chief further said that this protest will not be under any political party’s banner. “We must keep our differences aside and come together to counter the EVM debacle,” said Thackeray on the united opposition.

Raj Thackeray informed that the suspicions against the EVMs were raised after Donald Trump won the election in the US and “the EVM chip which is used in India is made in America”. Thackeray highlighted that the Election Commission of India (ECI) is “not reliable”.
