Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam claims failure of PM Ujjwala Yojana

Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam shared a video where it can be seen that a woman is cooking food on a wood stove

Ahead of the Lok Sabha election in Mumbai, Congress leader and candidate from city’s North West constituency, Sanjay Nirupam attacked the Prime Minister Ujjwala Yojana and shared a video which shows a house where food is being cooked on a ‘chulah’ (wood stove).

Nirupam said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) strongly propagate that every woman across the country has been provided with gas cylinders. However, in the video, it can be seen that the food is being cooked on a wood stove.

The central government had initiated the Ujjwala Yojana for the poor families which were aimed to help the rural women to get rid of cooking with the help of wood.

The scheme was started on May 1, 2016, under which the Modi government promised to provide free gas cylinder connection. However, people have not refilled the gas cylinders.
