As the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Mumbai have concluded, the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are locked in various strongrooms and so is the destiny of candidates who contested the general polls from six parliamentary constituencies in the city.

In Mumbai South Lok Sabha constituency, the Congress has fielded former Union Minister and current Mumbai Congress President Milind Deora against Shiv Sena candidate Arvind Sawant, who is the incumbent MP from the same constituency. In public opinion, Deora can prove to be a tough competition for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena alliance.

Congress gave the ticket to Milind Deora after appointing him as party’s Mumbai unit chief. Meanwhile, Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani has publicly backed Deora from South Mumbai for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Milind Deora has been elected twice as an MP from this parliamentary constituency.

As per the political discourse, Shiv Sena leader Arvind Sawant won the 2014 general elections under the influence of “Modi wave”. However, Sawant may face heat because of several unresolved issues such as the pending redevelopment of Sewri and BDD chawl, Worli coastal road.

Almost 51.46 per cent voter turnout was registered in Mumbai South Lok Sabha constituency on April 29. The highest voting was registered in Malabar Hill assembly section of the South parliamentary constituency while in Sewri the voter turnout was lowest in Colaba area.

In Mumbai South Lok Sabha constituency, the voting took place in six assembly sections:
