In the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, it has probably been the most asked question whether it's in the news panel discussion or our family WhatsApp groups: If not Rahul Gandhi or Modi, who could be the next PM?

However one always fails to understand that implicit in the question is a lack of genuine understanding and appreciation of the heart and soul of a parliamentary democracy.

For fans and devotees of the Prime Minister, “If not Modi, then who?” is more of a rebuttal than it is a question. When questioned about his words, actions, and policies, many of them immediately point out “the lack of a viable alternative”. However, here are the alternatives that Mumbaikars suggested:

A resident in Dadar suggested that Nitin Gadkari and Devendra Fadnavis would be great alternatives to Narendra Modi. He further said that it could be anyone except Rahul Gandhi. It is very evident that the image of Rahul Gandhi as "pappu" has found its roots deep inside people's psyche.

On asking the young voters, one suggested that MNS Chief Raj Thackeray and others were unable to think of any other alternative.

A local resident also stated that Congress does have many other alternatives other than RaGa like former Prime Minister and Finance Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh but it will only be fruitful if Dr. Manmohan Singh is capable of taking decisions without any external pressure. Some firmly believed that no one can beat Modi as he has played a major role in restoring India's image at a global level.
