As the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections are nearing, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are also gearing up for the same.

However, the decision on whether the ruling party MVA in the state will contest this election together is yet to be taken. According to the reports, it seems that the ruling partners haven’t come to consensus to fight election together.

While NCP leaders are reiterating that the three party alliance -- Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena will fight together in the upcoming Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections. On the other hand, Congress has suggested that the party would contest all the 227 seats alone.

"We have decided to fight the Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections together with the Mahavikas Aghadi," said Nawab Malik, President of the Mumbai Nationalist Congress Party and Minister for Minority Development.

Earlier, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut had said that the MVA partners, including the Sena, NCP and Congress, will contest the 2022 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation polls together. He also stated that the ruling MVA in Maharashtra is here to stay and expressed confidence that it would win the civic polls in the country’s commercial capital.

However, with no party wanting to ditch the opportunity of ruling India's richest civic body, newly-elected Mumbai Congress chief Bhai Jagtap said that seat-sharing is a difficult task. Earlier in November, party leader Ravi Raja too had said that Congress is capable of contesting BMC elections on its own.

Meanwhile, BJP is also making all efforts to wrest power from Shiv Sena and has already declared that it will emerge as the single largest party in the civic body.
