Maharashtra Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Chandrakant Patil on Friday said that his party will soon form a government in the state and has the support of 119 MLAs.

In the recently concluded assembly elections, BJP won 105 seats in Maharashtra and claims to have the support of additional 14 (Independent) MLAs. Patil’s remarks come as the Shiv Sena is coming closer to finalise the government formation with Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress.

While addressing a press conference, Patil said that BJP is the single largest party and the additional support from Independent MLAs increases their numbers to 119.

...with these numbers, BJP will form the government in Maharashtra. We are keeping a close eye on every political development in the state,” said Maharashtra BJP President Chandrakant Patil.

BJP and Shiv Sena contested the assembly polls together. However, both the saffron parties headed towards a tussle over power-sharing and failed to form the government in Maharashtra.

While speaking about the BJP’s performance in the assembly polls, Chandrakant Patil stated that his party got 1.42 crore votes and was the single largest party followed by NCP and Shiv Sena.

Since 1990, no other party but BJP has managed to win more than 100 seats and BJP managed to do so in 2014 and 2019,” said Patil.
