Congress has formed a committee of 10 leaders to negotiate seat sharing in Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). The leaders in this committee will be responsible for discussing seat allocation in the state and Mumbai.


Seat sharing is going to be a key issue in (MVA). The NCP Sharad Pawar group has already decided to contest more seats. The Shiv Sena Thackeray faction defeated the Congress in the Lok Sabha elections. The rightful Congress seat of Sangli was forcibly taken over by the Thackeray group. Against this backdrop, the Congress has a challenge to win maximum seats. The Congress leaders are expecting more seats in the Legislative Assembly after winning the maximum number of 13 seats in the state in the Lok Sabha elections.

MVA includes Congress, Shiv Sena Thackeray Group, Nationalist Sharad Pawar Group, PWP, Marxist Communist Party, Samajwadi Party. The success of the MVA in the Lok Sabha elections has raised the expectations of all allied parties. The Marxist Communist Party has claimed 12 seats. Samajwadi Party wants 35 seats. Apart from this, some other small parties want seats. There has been a preliminary discussion that Congress should get at least 100 seats. While negotiating with Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray, this 10-member committee will have a big challenge to win more seats.



Who is on the committee?

  • A committee of seven and three for Mumbai has been appointed to discuss with Shiv Sena and NCP in Mahavikas Aghadi.

  • The state level committee includes state president Nana Patole, legislature party leader Balasaheb Thorat, former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, opposition leader Vijay Wadettiwar, party leader in the Legislative Council Satej Patil, former ministers Nitin Raut and Nasim Khan.

  • Mumbai Congress president MP Varsha Gaikwad, MLA Bhai Jagtap and Aslam Shaikh have been included in the committee to discuss seat allocation for 36 constituencies in Mumbai.
