The budget session of Maharashtra Legislature has commenced from today. The Central Election Commission has given permission to Eknath Shinde to use the Shiv Sena party name and bow and arrow symbol. Following which, the Chief Whip of Shiv Sena legislative party, Bharat Gogavale has issued 'whip' to 55 MLAs of Shiv Sena.

Before the start of the budget session, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde held a meeting with 40 MLAs at 'Varsha' bungalow. During this meeting, the budget strategy was discussed. It was also decided to issue a whip in this meeting. According to the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) group's claim, the Shinde group cannot issue a whip to them as they are a separate group. But Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar is also saying that he knows Shiv Sena as a party as he has not received any letter that there are two factions.

Meanwhile, Bharat Gogavale has also made it clear that no action will be taken against those who violate the attendance whip for the convention, even if it continues.

What is a whip?

Whip is the order of the party. If this order is not followed, the presiding officer is requested on behalf of the party to cancel the membership of the concerned MLA. Hence, many further developments depend on how the total 55 MLAs, including 40 from the Shinde faction and 15 from the Thackeray faction, participate in the convention.

The state budget is also going to be presented on March 9 in the assembly session starting today.
