As the number of cases for the coronavirus is increasing, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray called an all-party meeting in the state on Thursday and has invited opposition leaders from to discuss the ways to stop the spread of the COVID-19. 

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is likely to discuss his government’s preparations to contain the spread of COVID-19 which has claimed 651 lives in the state. Moreover, the state government will also take suggestions and expect cooperation from the opposition leaders amid the coronavirus crisis. 

Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly and Council - Devendra Fadnavis and Praveen Darekar along with Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, among others participated in the meeting. Moreover, MNS leader Amit Thackeray was also present in the all-party meeting.

Uddhav Thackeray will hold the meeting via video conferencing with leaders of 18 political parties in the state. The senior Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) leaders will also attend the meeting including Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, state Water Resource Minister Jayant Patil and state Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat.

As per the official data, the number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra has risen to 16,758 while the death toll has touched 651. In Mumbai alone, nearly 10,714 cases have been reported until now followed by 2,000 cases in Pune and 1,404 in Thane. 

On Wednesday, Maharashtra reported 1,233 fresh COVID-19 cases and 34 deaths. The state public health department informed that 3,094 patients have been recovered till now. 

India has entered the third phase of the lockdown which will end on May 17. In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the centre announced a nationwide lockdown from March 25. However, the cases across the country have been increasing despite 40 days of lockdown.
