Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray thanks PM Modi for considering his demand to expand vaccination drive

The central government, on April 19, 2021, announced an important decision keeping the increasing coronavirus cases in mind. As per the new decision, citizens over the age of 18 will now be vaccinated in India, and the drive will begin on May 1, 2021.

After the Centre on Monday, April 19, announced to allow vaccination for all citizens above the age of 18, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray warmly welcomed the decision.

CM Uddhav Thackeray thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for considering his demand to expand the vaccination drive. Moreover, he also hoped that the state will receive COVID-19 vaccines on time.

"A few days ago, I had requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to decide on vaccinating all those aged above 25. The Central government today took a positive step on it declaring to administer the vaccine to all aged above 18 and thought about my demand. I thank the Prime Minister and Union health minister for the same," said CM in an official statement.

“We shall make full preparations for this plan and I hope that sufficient vaccine stocks will be made available regularly," he added.

As cases spiralled in many states, the Union government also liberalised the vaccination drive to allow states, private hospitals and industrial establishments to procure the doses directly from manufacturers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting on Monday with the doctors, COVID-19 task force and pharmaceutical companies, post which, officials decided to announce the vaccination drive for everyone over the age of 18.
