Until January 16, a total of 1.30 lakh vaccines have been registered with the corporation for vaccination, and over 7,000 employees have been trained for this campaign.

The state-wide vaccination campaign drive against coronavirus (Covid-19) was launched by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday, January 16, 2021. The event was held at 11.30 am at Covid Facilitation Center located at Mumbai's Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC).

Besides this, the vaccination drive was also launched at 10.30 am at Cooper Hospital in Vile Parle whereby Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the same through online interaction and event.

As planned, the vaccination drive was done at 40 booths at across nine centres in Mumbai, and initially, an average of 4,000 people were expected to be vaccinated daily. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) received about 1.39 lakh doses of 'Covishield' vaccine which will fight against the coronavirus infection. The vaccine has been developed by Serum Institute in Pune.

Until yesterday, a total of 1.30 lakh vaccines have been registered with the corporation for vaccination, and over 7,000 employees have been trained for this campaign.

BMC officials have decided that the vaccination will be done in three phases as per the guidelines issued by the Central Government. In the first phase, health workers will be vaccinated, followed by sanitation workers and frontline workers in the second phase. The third phase of the drive will include all citizens above 50 years of age as well as citizens below 50 years of age with comorbidities like diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.

Moreover, 63 vaccination centres will be started in Mumbai in the third phase, and officials aim to vaccinate more than 50,000 citizens every day.
