CM Thackeray visits cyclone-affected areas of Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg

According to reports, the state government is expected to announce a package for the cyclone-affected coastal districts after a thorough check by CM Thackeray.

In recent developments, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is on a tour of the cyclone-affected areas of Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg on Friday, May 21 in order to assess the damages caused by the recent cyclonic storm. In the town of Malvan in the Sindhudurg district, he further asserted that assistance will be provided to those affected by the calamity. 



According to reports, the state government is expected to announce a package for the cyclone-affected coastal districts after a thorough check by CM Thackeray. Moreover, the spot assessment of losses in Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Raigad and other districts is expected to be completed in a day or two.

Cyclone Tauktae, which hit the coastal districts on Sunday and Monday, caused damage to structures and horticulture in the state. The death toll rose to 19 after the body of one of the missing sailors from Devgad was found on Thursday, May 20.

Meanwhile, CM Thackeray will hold review meetings with officials from Ratnagiri and Sindhdurg, following his visit to the affected areas of the two districts. In Sindhudurg, the CM will be visiting the villages at Vengurla and Malvan tehsils.

On the other hand, it was earlier reported that Cyclone Tauktae has caused a loss of INR 5,77,45,117 in the Sindhudurg district. These losses are likely to increase further. Furthermore, as many as 13,389 people from Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Raigad, Thane and Palghar districts were evacuated to safer places in view of Cyclone Tauktae. Moreover, 4,563 people from Ratnagiri district, 190 from Sindhudurg district, 8,383 from Raigad district, 53 from Thane district and 200 from Palghar district were also evacuated.
