After Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched ‘Ayushman Bharat Yojana’ on Sunday, Congress slammed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government for taking credit regarding the same. Maharashtra Congress President Ashok Chavan claimed that Congress was going to launch this scheme during their term but BJP started it changing the name of the scheme.

While talking to the media, Chavan said that the scheme ‘Rajiv Gandhi Jeevandayee Yojana’ started by Congress was changed to ‘Mahatama Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana’ by BJP-Shiv Sena led Maharashtra government. Now, the central government has launched the same scheme by the name of ‘Ayushman Bharat Yojana’.

Chavan further said that ‘Rajiv Gandhi Jeevandayi Yojana’ was started for the poor in which each family could pay ₹700 to get benefits from the scheme. However, the Modi government has increased the amount to ₹2000 which will benefit the private insurance company. PM Modi should do actual work on ground level rather than just advertising, said Chavan.

The Maharashtra Congress President said that more than two crore families are being benefited from ‘Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana’ but only 84 lakh families will be benefited from ‘Ayushman Yojana’.

Madhya Pradesh has withdrawn from the central government scheme and in Haryana, not even one per cent people have associated with the scheme. So, where will the funds from this scheme be utilised?” Chavan asked.

Chavan has demanded that there should be an enquiry on this scheme by a joint parliamentary committee.
