A day after the official Twitter handle of the Maharashtra Chief Minister's office referred to Aurangabad as Sambhaji Nagar in its tweet, Congress state chief Balasaheb Thorat has reiterated that his party opposes the decision.

Reminding the CM that the ruling government wasn’t formed by a single party, he said that Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is a three party alliance. All three alliance partners have a responsibility towards the government. There is a 'common minimum programme' which was agreed upon. Changing names of places has no mention in it.

The Tweet by CMO on January 6 sparked a row as a photo of Congress Minister Amit Deshmukh was also featured in it. Responding to the tweet, Thorat expressed his dissent on the demand to rename Aurangabad saying that such things should not be done on official communication.

In a Tweet, Thorat said the state's information department needs to be careful while tweeting about the Aurangabad airport. This was after the DGIPR, in a tweet concerning reaming of the airport, used the name Sambhajinagar before Aurangabad.

He however, refuted the BJP's charges that there was rift within the Shiv Sena-Congress-NCP government in Maharashtra.

He also said he will also speak to members of the government to express his disapproval. Besides, he also urged the Sena not to play politics in the name of Sambhaji Maharaj as he is our deity.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has written a letter to the Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri demanding that a notification be issued as soon as possible to rename Aurangabad Airport as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Airport.
