In a significant move ahead of the upcoming 2024 elections, the state Congress party has undertaken a comprehensive evaluation of the state's Lok Sabha constituencies, with the exception of Mumbai and Chandrapur. Maharashtra boasts 48 representatives in the Lok Sabha.

The evaluation process has been completed for 41 Lok Sabha districts. It aims to identify key areas of strength and weakness for the Congress party.

Mumbai and Chandrapur will undergo separate evaluations due to their unique political dynamics. Congress leaders are optimistic about their strong presence and widespread support across all constituencies.

According to Nana Patole, the state party leader, Congress was set to convene a Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) meeting on June 3. One of the primary agendas of this meeting was the distribution of seats among the alliance partners. The MVA conference would have included input from all alliance parties to ensure a fair and cohesive seat allocation that maximises their collective electoral prospects.

In the 2019 elections, Congress managed to secure only one seat out of the 25 it contested, while its alliance partner, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), won four out of 19 seats. The BJP emerged victorious by clinching 23 seats out of 25, and its ally, Shiv Sena, secured 18 out of the 23 seats it contested.

Nana Patole, a prominent leader within the Congress party, firmly believes that the BJP government's days are numbered. He asserts that people are exhausted with the rampant corruption and view Congress as the only viable choice for bringing about the much-needed change in the upcoming elections.

Amidst these political developments, Chandrapur's Lok Sabha seat has become vacant due to the unfortunate demise of Congress MP Suresh alias Balu Dhanorkar.
