Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Finance and Planning, Ajit Pawar, on Tuesday, December 15, mentioned that the state government is clear about giving reservation to the Maratha community, and the decisions regarding the same will be taken without affecting the reservation of the OBC community in Maharashtra.

Pawar clarified the same on the second day of the winter session of the Maharashtra Legislature after the opposition BJP attacked the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government over the issue of Maratha and OBC reservations.

Responding to the same, he added that the state government is committed towards the reservation for the Maratha community in the state, and will use its full strength to bring justice to the Maratha community. In doing so, the reservation of the OBC community will not be affected in any way and the rights will not be taken away.

Earlier, former CM, Devendra Fadnavis in a very aggressive manner slammed the government over the issue. While speaking about Maratha reservation in the Assembly, he said that during BJP's rule, there was no time observed to adjourn the Maratha reservation when the hearing was ongoing at the Supreme Court. However, the case has been transferred to the bench and the moratorium on Maratha reservation remains. This marks the failure of the state government to lift the moratorium on reservations, thereby several questions are being raised. The decision, at this crucial time of the year, has been tough for the  Maratha youth who are at home waiting for their jobs. On the other hand, the government is not ready to discuss the matter.

Fadnavis added that even in their rule, the citizens staged protests and expressed agitations through rallies, but no one was ever arrested.

However, in today's scenario, the situation has become similar to an emergency, where one cannot march and come to Mumbai. He alleged that the role of the government, which does not want to discuss the matter is raising the agitation among the people from the Maratha community.
