State Government appoints a committee for maratha reservation

As per reports, the committee has been given the responsibility of preparing a comprehensive guideline based on SC's decision which will help in taking the next steps

The chairman of the Cabinet sub-committee on Maratha reservation, Ashok Chavan, on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, informed that a committee was set up under the chairmanship of former Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court and former Mumbai High Court Judge Dilip Bhosale to study the Supreme Court's (SC) verdict on Maratha reservation.

The decision to set up a committee was taken to understand the decision passed by the SC and also to guide the state government in this regard. The committee will also help in deciding the next steps which will be taken regarding the Maratha reservation which held on May 8, 2021. 

Furthermore, the General Administration Department of the State Government has issued a decision to set up this committee under the chairmanship of Dilip Bhosale. The committee has been given the responsibility of preparing a comprehensive guideline based on SC's decision which will lead to the next steps for the Maratha Reservation.

Reports state that the committee comprises of senior lawyer Rafiq Dada, former state advocate general and senior lawyer Darayas Khambata, retired chartered accountant Sudhir Thackeray, senior legal adviser and secretary Sanjay Deshmukh, law and justice secretary Bhupendra Gurav, and Adv. Ashish Raje Gaikwad. Joint Secretary, Department of Law and Justice B. Z. Syed will be the member secretary of the committee.

Apart from this, High Court lawyers Adv. Akshay Shinde, Adv. Vaibhav Sugdare and Deputy Secretary of General Administration Department T. V. Karpate will assist this committee.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, called on Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai and presented a statement on Maratha reservation. The letter was presented requesting the President to take necessary steps regarding the Maratha reservation by guiding the Central Government.
