Maharashtra Govt Announces Immediate Relief of INR 10,000 Per Family to flood victims

Maharashtra has been wintnessing intense downpour since the last week. As a result of the incessant rains, there have been many landslides that have caused widespread devastation. One such landslide had occured in Taliye village, in Raigad district. As per reports, as many as 53 people have been declared dead and 31 are missing from this incident alone. 

According to the State Disaster Management Authority, the death toll in flood-ravaged Maharashtra shot up to 192 on Monday, July 26.

On Monday, Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Vijay Wadettiwar, announced an immediate assistance of INR 10,000 per family affected by floods. Furthermore, it has been announced that INR 5,000 will also be given to those whose foodgrains have perished. The latter would be given in kind, while the INR 10,000 will be deposited in the accounts of the people impacted. 

The state government had already announced that INR 5 lakh each to the next of kin for the people who have lost their lives due to the landslide. In addition, free treatment will be provided to those injured in this incident. Apart from this, help will also be given to those whose houses have completely collapsed.

This announcemnt was made by Wadettiwar after touring the flood infected places. He was accompained by Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. They had toured various rain-hit villages in Sangli district on Monday and even had to use a rescue boat to reach out to flood victims in some of these areas. 

 Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray too was to tour these places but he had to cut short his aerial survey of Satara district as his helicopter could not land due to poor visibility.

Mumbai has recorded 93% of the average rainfall in a season, claim reports.
