The Maharashtra government has set up a web portal for the locals seeking employment in the industrial sector. The portal will help the industries find skilled or unskilled labour in the wake of a mass exodus of migrant workers from the state due to the lockdown.

This move will help industries find replacement labour in Maharashtra as migrant workers and labourers have left the state in lakhs which has created a huge gap for manpower.

Maharashtra Minority Affairs and Skill Development Minister, Nawab Malik has asked the industry employers to list vacancies on the government’s web portal - rojgar.mahaswayam.gov.in or www.mahaswayam.gov.in.

During the Magnetic Maharashtra 2.0 conference, the industry secretary Venugopal Reddy said that a database of people who have been trained will be created for employers to easily hire. Moreover, in the last five years, the skill development department has trained nearly 15 lakh people.

The portal launched by the Maharashtra government allows industries to register themselves paving way for the employers to list vacancies. Malik informed that the portal service is free of cost and it acts as a medium between industries and those seeking employment.

Those seeking employment will also have to register to the website and mention their educational qualification along with their skills. As per the official data, nearly 18 lakh migrants have left for their native places from Mumbai alone.

Earlier, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray held a meeting with several investors from various countries. Moreover, the state government signed 12 memorandum of understandings (MoUs) with global companies for investments worth ₹16,000 crores.
