Congress leader Manish Tewari has asked Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to cancel the agreement made by Maharashtra government with Chinese Automobile Maker ‘Great Wall Motors’.

Tewari’s request comes in the view of the death of 20 Indian Army personnel in violent border clashes with China at Galwan Valley in Ladakh. The former Union Minister tweeted saying that this agreement should be scrapped amid the tension on the border.

“Respected Chief Minister Sahib, this agreement should be scrapped ASAP. We can not be filling the coffers of those who slaughter our soldiers,” Tewari tweeted while sharing a news link titled ‘China's Great Wall Motors signs $1 billion MoU with Maharashtra; border tensions with India escalate’.

Congress is the alliance partner in the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra.

Earlier, the Great Wall Motors announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra government of $1 billion. The GWM official said that it will invest in the state-of-the-art automotive manufacturing facility in Talegaon.

However, amid the Sino-China face-off at the border in Ladakh, the country has called for a boycott of Chinese products. Union Minister Ramdas Athawale even said that restaurants and hotels serving Chinese food should also be banned.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Chief Minister extended his support to the central government and armed forces in the all-party meeting called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the stand-off with China.

However, Modi said that China has not captured any Indian territory or crossed the borders dismissing the claims of intrusion by the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) into the Indian territory.
