Farmers from various districts of Maharashtra gathered at Azad Maidan in Mumbai on Monday, January 25 to express their displeasure against the Centre's farm laws.

As Maharashtra governor is in Goa instead of Mumbai, farmer organisations started sit-in protest near Metro cinema, in Mumbai rejecting to meet Governor's secretary.

While addressing a rally at Mumbai's Azad Maidan Sharad Pawar took a dig at Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari.

“You are going to Raj Bhavan to meet the Governor. Maharashtra has never seen such a Governor before. He has the time to meet Kangana Ranaut but not the farmers. It was the moral responsibility of the Governor to come here & meet you," NCP chief Sharad Pawar told farmers.

Lashing out at the Central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he further stated, "Even in the braving cold weather, farmers from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh are agitating for the last 60 days. Has the PM enquired about them? Do these farmers belong to Pakistan?"

"It's unfortunate that those who are in power don't care about farmers. Centre refused oppositions demand to refer these laws to select committee. This was a way put to built consensus. But the Modi government insisted it is passed as it was. It is a violation of the Constitution. The process to teach the government a lesson has begun through farmers. There cannot be a compromise on MSP."

According to reports, police have made tight security arrangements at the venue of a farmers' rally here and protesters are not allowed to march from south Mumbai to the Raj Bhavan. Moreover, agitators protesting the new farm laws moving towards the Raj Bhavan (Governor's House) in Mumbai, were stopped by the police.

Besides, Senior Congress revenue minister and MPCC president Balasaheb Thorat was also present at Azad Maidan to address the farmers' rally. While speaking at this protest rally he said that the Congress will not give up its protest till all three draconian farm laws are repealed.
