The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded the resignation of Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh after the Supreme Court transferred the Sushant Singh Rajput death case to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The top court’s decision is seen as a huge blow to the three-party alliance in Maharashtra. Deshmukh and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) leaders had earlier refused the demand to transfer the case to CBI.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the Bihar government’s order to transfer the SSR death case to CBI. The bench found no fault in the FIR registered in Bihar against actress Rhea Chakraborty and her family members.

The court said that Bihar Police had jurisdiction to register FIR at the complaint of Sushant Singh Rajput’s father. A single bench of Justice Hrishikesh Roy held the transfer of the case to CBI valid.

As this happened, the Mumbai Police and the MVA government are being attacked by the opposition parties. Many on social media have also demanded the resignation of Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh.

After the SC’s decision, senior BJP leader Kirit Somaiya expressed hope that the late actor’s family will get justice. He said that the Mumbai Police Commissioner not registering an FIR in the SSR death case for two months was unfortunate.

“Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh should accept the responsibility and resign immediately. The Mumbai Police Commissioner also owes an explanation for not filing an FIR,” he said.

Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, Devendra Fadnavis said that the verdict given by the Supreme Court in the SSR death case strengthens the faith in the judicial system. He also suggested that the Uddhav Thackeray government should introspect.
