Amidst the coronavirus crisis, the Maharashtra government is all geared up to conduct the monsoon session of the legislation. The session is slated for September 7 and 8.

Before attending the session, all members, including the Chief Minister and his council of ministers will have to undergo real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests on September 6 and only those testing negative for the coronavirus will be allowed to participate in the proceedings.

Moreover, each member will be given a safety kit consisting of a mask, hand gloves and a sanitizer. Members' personal secretaries will not be permitted in the House. The members' drivers will also have separate seating arrangements which will include breakfast and tea. There will be no handshakes or standing around in groups in a bid to avoid gatherings and direct contact.

According to State Legislature Secretary Rajendra Bhagwat, this convention is touted to bring to the forefront unstirred questions, supplementary demands and appropriation bills. This will include 7 government bills and one appropriation bill.

As a result of the ongoing pandemic, the monsoon session, which was to take place on June 22, was postponed to August 3, but with the surge in the number of cases of coronavirus, it was further postponed to September 7.
