Experts believe that the number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Maharashtra would cross the 10 lakh mark in the next 10 days, and the state might soon need more doctors and healthcare workers to manage the crisis.

COVID-19 infection is on the rise in Maharashtra and experts believe that the number of cases would reach 10 lakh in the next 10 days. Keeping the same in mind, Vijay Wadettiwar, Minister of State for Relief and Rehabilitation, has informed that the state should observe a complete lockdown for three weeks and not just on weekends.

He shared the information which speaking to a news channel, whereby he said that that all efforts are being made by the state government to prevent the spread of coronavirus. But the virus is spreading fast and if it is not controlled, then the state might run short of manpower. Currently, healthcare workers, doctors, nurses are doing their best, but if the cases rise exponentially, then the state might note the shortage. 

As per reports, around 5500 doctors who have passed the final examination are in the fore front of fighting the virus, however, the manpower will have to be increased. 

If the number of cases cross one million in the next 10 days, the government will have no choice but to implement a strict lock down. Currently, the state has imposed a night curfew on weekdays and a lockdown over the weekend. Minister further added that on the other hand, if the need arises, the railways will have to make necessary arrangements to avoid congestion in trains whereby restrictions would have to be imposed once again. He said that discussion regarding the same will be held with the Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, and the point to impose a strict lockdown for 3 weeks will be shared.

Meanwhile, the local administration has asked traders and shopkeepers to keep their shops and stalls closed from Monday to Friday and orders have been issued to implement weekend lockdown in the state. This has raised concerns for small traders and shopkeepers. While they have accepted the weekend lockdown, some have demanded that business should be allowed to remain open at least two to three days in between too.
