Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis has extended its support to the Maratha outfits demanding quota in education and government jobs while slamming the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government for not taking enough measures in the Maratha reservation case.

“The state government is wasting time on the Maratha reservation. This is why there is a feeling of anger in the Maratha community across Maharashtra. It is the job of the government to solve the problems of people. However, the authorities have completely forgotten,” Fadnavis said while addressing a meeting of Maharashtra BJP Executive at Vasant Smruti in Dadar.

Fadnavis, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra legislative assembly, further said that MVA government thinks that by criticising BJP and calling it anti-Maharashtra they can hiding their failures.

The BJP stands with the Maratha outfit demanding 12 per cent reservation in education and 13 per cent in government jobs, Fadnavis said. The party adopted a resolution restating its commitment to the Maratha reservation issue.

Fadnavis, however, said that the BJP won’t allow the quota for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) to be cut in order to provide reservation to the Maratha community. Some leaders have suggested Maratha reservation under OBC quota to resolve the issue but this could affect the social harmony among two communities, the BJP leader.

“We brought reservation for Maratha community under Socially and Educationally Backward Class (SEBC) in 2018. This was done to ensure that there is no conflict and the OBC reservation is not affected,” the former Chief Minister said.

Meanwhile, Fadnavis lashed out at the Uddhav Thackeray government over its opposition to the farm laws and not allowing to reopen temples in Maharashtra. The BJP has demanded that the temples should be reopened in the state.
