The Maharashtra government recently brought the Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Research Training and Human Development Institute (SARTHI) under the Planning department which is headed by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

This comes amid allegations levelled by the Maratha community that the state government was shutting down the SARTHI initiative which was started by the Devendra Fadnavis-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in 2019.

However, after meeting with BJP MP Chhatrapati Sambhajiraje and other leaders from the Maratha community, Pawar assured that the SARTHI will continue and the autonomy of the institute will remain intact.

After the meeting at Mantralaya, the Deputy CM assured that SARTHI initiative will not shut down and allocated funds worth ₹8 crores for it which were transferred within two hours.

SARTHI scheme provides fellowship to students from the Maratha community. It focuses on research, policy advocacy, training and has established for the socio-economic and educational development of the Maratha, Kunbi and other such communities which depend on agriculture.

During the meeting, Sambhajiraje had demanded SARTHI to remain an autonomous body which has been accepted by the state government. The meeting was also attended by Maharashtra OBC Welfare Minister Vijay Wadettiwar and state Skill Development Minister Nawab Malik.

Moreover,  Annasaheb Patil Arthik Magas Vikas Mahamandal which was under the skill development department has also been brought under the Planning department.

Several Maratha organisations have alleged that the MVA government was trying to create trouble in the functioning of SARTHI and wanted to shut it down. However, the Deputy CM said that those making allegation should stop and work for the betterment of the institute.
