The issue of Maratha reservation has taken a violent turn recently. On Monday, a youth, Kakasaheb Shinde died during the protest after falling into Godavari river and in response, the Maratha Kranti Morcha (MKM) declared ‘bandh’ in Mumbai along with Navi Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Satara to protest against the Maharashtra government. The information about the ‘bandh’ was given by MKM leader Vinod Patil.

On Tuesday afternoon, a meeting of the MKM leaders was held at Shivaji Mandir, Dadar to determine the future of the movement for Maratha Reservation. The decision regarding the reservation was taken at this meeting. Alongside, the purpose of protest against the Chief Minister was presented. However, MKM assured that there will be violence or hooliganism during the ‘bandh’.

Mumbai, Pune, Satara and Pandharpur were left excluded from the MKM’s Maharashtra ‘bandh’ which happened on Tuesday.

For the last two years, the Maratha community has been silently protesting while on the other hand, they are also fighting a court battle. But even after two years, the question hasn’t been resolved which has led to the conversion of a peaceful demonstration into an aggressive protest. Maratha protestors prevented Maharashtra Chief Minister Fadnavis from conducting pooja on Ashadi Ekadashi in Pandharpur and later, also destroyed vehicles in Hingoli and Parbhani.
