Mumbai Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar will contest the assembly elections in Maharashtra from Bandra East constituency on Shiv Sena ticket. With this, the speculations regarding Mahadeshwar contesting the assembly polls have been confirmed.

Earlier, Shiv Sena leaders in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) told that Mahadeshwar was informed last year by party’s senior leaders to prepare for the assembly elections.

Meanwhile, sitting Shiv Sena MLA Trupti Sawant from Bandra East has not been given the ticket to contest the assembly polls. Along with Sawant, Shiv Sena has left its MLA Ashok Patil as well.

After both the MLAs were denied tickets, their supporters protested outside Matoshree – the residence of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray.
